We’d like to acknowledge the team that works behind-the-scenes on many of our sustainability and community efforts. Each of our locations has one or more employees who are part of our “Green Team.” This team, along with other passionate and dedicated employee volunteers help organize facility and community initiatives. Sample initiatives include projects like our latest Pollinator Garden in Benton and environmental volunteering efforts like Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, to organizing community donations to hospitals and food banks during COVID-19, supporting communities in the aftermath of natural disasters, and facilitating the data collection for our sustainability report.
These members of the Heritage Sustainability Team are invaluable and help keep our offices connected, both to each other and the communities where we operate. We’ve linked several of the projects they’ve facilitated below. Sustainability for our workforce also includes initiatives to increase retention and improve the overall employee experience. One initiative includes educating employees from day 1 and beyond about our company values, mission and strategy. We then strive to engage employees and make sure they know they are part of an organization that makes a positive impact on our earth and their community every day.
No matter an individual’s job assignment, they are part of our collective good — we seek out their ideas and appreciate their contributions. All employees are encouraged to join the Heritage Innovation Team (HIT). When employees submit their ideas to HIT, they get the opportunity to work with subject matter experts across the organization, receive coaching and financial rewards every step of the way.
One of our company’s core values is “Freedom to Learn and Grow” – and we continue to create ongoing educational opportunities for our workforce to support their career development. We find that engaged employees are resilient employees – and that makes our entire business more sustainable.
